Passive Smoking Kills Over Half A Million

The first ever worldwide study looking at effects of passive smoking has determined that over half a million deaths, closer to 600000, can be directly attributed to passive smoking.

Of this shocking figure, approximately a third are children whose parents smoke and are subsequently exposed to their second hand smoke.  This supports the view that while passive smoking is dangerous and life threatening for everyone, it especially affects children.

Just some of the horrible diseases and conditions which can be caused by passive smoking include asthma, cancers and heart disease.  All which can be painful to experience, and ultimately prove fatal.

Of the study findings, carried out by the World Health Organization, the main concern lies with the unacceptable high mortality rate for children suffering from second hand smoke.  From their study, it was found that of the hundreds of thousands of children dying from smoke related causes, the majority of these children were found in Africa and different parts of South East Asia.clip image00138 300x240 Passive Smoking Kills Over Half A Million

While it can unfortunately be sometimes impossible to avoid smoke, with many parents smoking in or around their homes, it is an unnecessary danger to their children.  Some may find it hard to give up smoking, or even reduce their level of smoking, but there are an increasing number of support channels and advice lines which can offer effective help and support if you wanted to give up smoking.

Aside from improving your own health, and wallet, is there any other greater motivator to quitting smoking than improving the health of your children??

Of the approximately 600000 worldwide smoke related deaths, over half of such cases see adults die from heart problems or heart disease.

The worst offenders for exposure to smoke were found to be Europe and somewhat unsurprisingly Asia, which along with tobacco has a serious problem with industrial smoke and smog.

While it can be a struggle to give up smoking, help is available.  Industrial related smoke could also be decreased in the coming years as environmental laws are enforced.  These two together can only help to improve the health of the world.
