Who wasn’t a fan of the A-Team when they were growing up? For many years since the TV series ended, i longed for the day when the i would hear that a movie would be made. Of course, as the years passed, and I grew older, I came to realise that an A-Team movie
might actually be a bad idea. Can you really adapt an 80’s, tongue in cheek, TV series into a Hollywood blockbuster?
When the new A-Team film was finally announced, I couldn’t help but feel a excited. All those memories came back of watching Hannibal and the team beat up the baddies. At the same time I was apprehensive. This film could potentially ruin the legacy of four of my hero’s from the 80’s.
Would the movie be actually be trash? Well, the answer is… YES!
The A-Team movie is Trash, but its good trash just like the TV series. The cinematic equivalent to a bucket of KFC chicken: incredibility bad for you, and part of you wishes you hadn’t, but immensely enjoyable, so much so, that you may well want another one!
Cast Review and Summary
For the A-team to work is all about a successful interpretation of the characters; plain and simple! If the characters aren’t right – the film will fall flat on its face and will only be branded as “A-team” by name alone.
Fortunately, the cast work well together. Many names were brandished around as it was announced the movie would happen. George Clooney was many peoples choice for Hannibal but that honour went to Liam Neeson. Neeson brings the right combination of smooth and cool to
Hannibal, and Bradley Cooper is, right at home as the wise-cracking and womanising con-man Face.
Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson plays B.A. and does a pretty good job. Lets remember guys, the original BA wasn’t a great actor and his roll was mostly muscles and snarling. Taking that into account Jackson does a fine job though some may disagree. Of the foursome, its Sharlto Copley who manages to stand out…and then some! For someone who wasn’t professionally trained as an actor, he portrayed Murdoch flawlessly. I was very entertained for the whole duration of the movie largely due to his antics.
The action scenes are pretty impressive which is normal by today’s standards. Lot’s of explosions, fighting and airplane chases. What I didn’t particularly like were the computer generated effects. They looked fake at times, and it looked like a lazy job in some scenes.
Summary
My best advice for anyone who is going to see this film is to sit back and enjoy the ride. Its a lot of brainless fun that has some nostalgic moments. The New A-team movie does well to show glimpses of the old 1980’s TV series, while still being able to stand out as an action packed 21st century movie in its own right. If you are looking for a light hearted, funny and action packed movie, it doesn’t get much better than The A-Team.
Oh and I’m aware I haven’t mentioned much about the plot. Its intentional folks! While there is a plot, its not really that important. The A-team was never about great story lines and this movie follows suit.
My Rating 8 out of 10 - You would be a crazy fool to miss this!
